About Us

As many brewery stories go, ours started with a garage, a turkey frier, and two brothers who were tired

of trying to find good beers, so we started making our own. In a matter of months the brew system grew

from a gravity fed turkey frier to a three vessel 10-gallon brewhouse complete with hard piped chugger

pumps, reverse osmosis water, and a heat exchange re-circulation mash system. After hosting several

tastings for friends and family, and getting positive feedback on a number of recipes, the brewing

brothers (Brewthers) began to aspire of taking things to the next level.

In late 2018, the Brewthers partnered with Black Acre Brewing Company in Irvington and began

producing beers at their facility to be sold at local bars and restaurants. In early 2019 the Brewthers hit

the Indiana On Tap festival scene with Lagers in Lawrence and received nothing but praise for

everything on tap. The Brewthers continued to attend a variety of festivals throughout 2019 while

looking for the perfect location to establish their own brick and mortar brewery location. It was at this

time Herrmann Brewthers became Indianapolis’s nomadic brewery, roaming from festival to festival

with no place of their own to call home.

Then COVID hit and everything came to a stand-still. No more festivals, no more bar and restaurant

sales, and no more searching for the perfect brewery location. In 2021 that all changed as the world

started to rouse itself from hibernation. The Brewthers, more determined than ever, once again started

hunting for their forever home. Having grown-up in the Eagle Creek area and graduating from Ben Davis

High School in the mid-late 1990’s, when a location presented itself in the Chapel Hill/Ben Davis area

late 2021 the Brewthers jumped at the chance to establish their roots in the westside community once

more. However, even with COVID in the rear view mirror, a post COVID build-out still presented no

shortage of challenges. It took a lot of late nights and weekends, and a healthy supply of blood, sweat,

and tears, but the vision was finally made reality in late October 2023 when the Brewthers officially

retired their nomadic status and opened the doors to Herrmann Brewthers Bierwerks.
